The Greene County Community Foundation awarded more than $250,000 in grants at an awards program Sunday, April 6, in Jefferson. Grow Greene County provided $175,000 to the Community Foundation for grantmaking.
Grow Greene County awards grants greater than $35,000. Those awards were announced earlier this month. Requests for grants of $35,000 or less are made to the Community Foundation.
Grants were awarded as follows:

–Greene County conservation, $35,000 to install rural water to Squirrel Hollow park; Scranton Alumni Association, $34,000 for renovations to upper level of Scranton Community Center; City of Paton, $24,570 for improvements to Shriver Community Center; Greene County sheriff’s office, $13,766, drone with thermal and zoom capabilities; Paton-Churdan Tech Team, $10,472 for virtual reality headsets; City of Grand Junction, $9,863 for a riding lawnmower; Food Bank of Iowa, $7,500 to assist the Greene County Christian Action Resource Center, food distribution through Greene County and Paton-Churdan schools, and other food distribution sites in the county; and Greene County Fair Association, $6,005 for an exhibitor photo backdrop.
Also, Scranton public library, $5,674 for library furnishings; Highlander Corporation (in Churdan), $5,164 for exterior upgrade on south building; Rippey Baseball Commission, $4,768 for repairs and concrete at baseball field; Greene County elementary school, $4,443 for book vending machine; Pleasant Hill Memorial, $3,489 for HVAC system; Greene County Library Association, $3,000, cultural response materials; William Paton Public Library in Paton, $1,958 for outdoor library space; Grand Junction public library, $1,935 for computer replacement; and Ever Greene Ridge (in Jefferson), $1,000 landscaping.
The Community Foundation was able to draw $78,907 from its endowment funds in order to augment the Grow Greene County funds. Recipients of grants funded by the endowments were Jefferson parks and recreation, $35,000 to upgrade equipment at Washington Park; Churdan fire & rescue, $32,000 for personal protective gear; Greene County Family Medicine Clinic, $6,700 for a transcutaneous bilirubinometer; and Jefferson public library, $5,100 for a lighting upgrade in the Carnegie building.
GCCF president Patty Fisher presented the awards. A total of $253,907 was awarded Sunday.

Since 2006, the Greene County Community Foundation has awarded $2,682,353 in grants as follows: Churdan, 31 grants totaling $267,887; Grand Junction, 43 grants totaling $292,655; Paton/ Paton-Churdan Schools, 28 grants totaling $128,521; Rippey, 27 grants totaling $108,979; Scranton, 19 grants totaling $155,518; Jefferson, 89 grants totaling $644,411; Greene County, 124 grants totaling $958,531; and Other, 39 grants totaling $125,851.
